Each summer, Brookfield liaises with junior/primary schools to identify students that may benefit from enhanced provision to prepare them for transition to secondary school. These students are then invited to join us before the start of the academic year for our Summer School programme. The programme offers a combination of academic education and enrichment activities which are designed to also support student’s wellbeing. Our Summer School programme is concluded with the a day trip offsite to enable students to take part in team building activities to enhance their social and communication skills and to build their confidence.
Our Summer School is led by our Student Inclusion Manager supported by members of the pastoral and ELSA team alongside members of our teaching staff. In 2021, the school received the DfE Summer School grant of £7,060 which was used to fund staffing costs, to provide snacks and lunches for all participants, resources for the activities and the transport and centre fees for the external day trip.
The 2021 Summer School programme is attached to provide information on the range of activities provided. Students who attend Summer School are supported by the staff team as they settle into Year 7 with regular catch up sessions with their allocated staff member.
