Get into Teaching

Get into Teaching Experience Day on Tuesday 26th March

To register your interest, please email: getintoteaching@brookfield.hants.sch.uk

You will first meet our Headteacher Stuart Parkes, and the Professional Mentoring team, who will share an overview of our school as well as some tips on how to get the most out of lesson observations.

Afterwards, our students will take you on a tour of the school, to see Brookfield in action. Then you’ll spend the remainder of your day within your department, guided by your Mentor-for-the-day.

Do you have a passion for learning?

  • Do you fancy a change in career or are returning to work?

  • Do you enjoy working with young people?

Brookfield Community School is a good school with a strong tradition of training teachers. We work in partnership with a range of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers on the SCITT and PGCE routes including:

Bitterne park

the Bitterne Park Teacher Training Alliance

Wildern

I2i

the Wildern Partnership (in association with i2i Teaching Partnership)

University of chichester

University of Southampton

and the Universities of Chichester and Southampton to train new teachers in a range of subjects.

We are looking for the next generation of teachers in the area who are committed to the provision of outstanding teaching and learning. Those embarking on their teacher training year come from a variety of academic and workplace backgrounds, with varying degrees of experience, but ultimately they are passionate about their subject, life-long learning skills and working with young people.

If you are looking for your next challenge, and are considering joining the teaching profession, we would love to hear from you to invite you to one of our Get Into Teaching Events. We have a range of experienced staff who can help you to understand the various routes into teaching, the working life of a teacher, the bursaries available and the application process. We can also support school based experiences needed to secure any teacher training position. The next round of applications for teacher training nationwide opens at the end of October through UCAS, and bespoke support can be offered for those considering training

The teaching profession looks for the highest quality candidates, so you will need to hold an undergraduate degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification. You will have achieved a standard equivalent to grade C or above, in the GCSE examinations in English and mathematics.

If you are planning for a teaching career, a valuable stepping stone into the profession can be to take on a Cover Supervisor or Learning Support Assistant for a year or more to develop your understanding and confidence in a secondary school setting. This can be an extremely useful experience, and through our close links with Initial Teacher Training providers could be a supported process to get to a teaching career. If you feel this is a preferred route please visit our vacancies section of the website to see current positions available.

If you are ready to join the most rewarding of careers, register your interest by contacting us at getintoteaching@brookfield.hants.sch.uk and we will keep you updated of our events this year that can support your application.

Brookfield School will be running school experience weeks throughout the academic year.  Please follow our social media for more details:
