Dear Parents, Carers and Year 11 Students

Year 11 GCSE Exams – Key Information

Congratulations on reaching the halfway point. You have made an outstanding start to your GCSEs, and our staff are incredibly impressed and proud of how you have been conducting yourselves.

This letter is to clarify a few details for after half term when study leave is in place.

Revision sessions on exam days

We continue to offer short, focused revision sessions in the Main Hall just prior to exams:

  • Morning exam revision: 8.30–9.00am
  • Afternoon exam revision: 12.30–1.00pm

These sessions are calm, structured spaces run by subject staff with resources and last-minute support.

Exam start times

Exam start times remain the same:

  • Morning exams: Arrive at 9.00am for a 9.15am start
  • Afternoon exams: Arrive at 1.15pm for a 1.30pm start

How do I enter site?

If you arrive on site at any point other than just before 8.30am, you must use the main front gate only – all other gates will be locked for site safety.

How do I leave site?

If you are leaving after a morning exam you must use the main front gate only – all other gates will be locked for site safety.

Can I still purchase food from school?

The A Block Servery will remain open after morning exams for students to purchase food in the normal way, as they leave site via the main front gate, or as they wait for the Main Hall to become available – please see below. For those who receive free school meals, this will continue to be available for students from the A Block servery.

Can I stay in school after a morning exam?

From Monday 2 June Year 11 students are on study leave, which means they are only required to be in school for exams. However, once assembly has taken place in PD, the Main Hall will be set up and staffed all day to allow students to use the space for revision. This will be a calm study place.

Phones during exams and revision
School phone rules remain in place during exams. Phones must not be seen or used around the school site and will be confiscated if they are. Please respect this rule after exams so that we can continue to have an orderly and focused school environment for the other year groups.

What are the key things I need to remember?

  • Your personal exam timetable is on EduLink in the Exams section
  • Seat numbers will also be displayed the day before each exam on the F Block noticeboard
  • Know your candidate number
  • Attend exams in full school uniform
  • Write in black ink
  • Leave phones and watches in bags at the exam venue – watches must be silent
  • Bring all required equipment (e.g., calculator if needed) in a transparent pencil case
  • You may bring water in a clear, unlabelled bottle

Parents/Carers

Please may we ask you to double check with your child that they are fully equipped for their exams, including black pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, calculator, and for maths, protractor and compass. Lacking equipment can cause delays at the start of the exam, and we have very limited spare equipment to lend.

Similarly, please could you ensure that your child is in full correct uniform for all exams so that we are never in the position where we must refuse entry to an exam while rectifying uniform issues.

Revision support at home

All of you will have revision plans in place now, but just as a reminder, the Exams section of the Student Portal contains:

  • An editable revision planner
  • Revision materials by subject
  • The full exam schedule
  • JCQ rules and guidance

This half term break is a fantastic opportunity to recharge and refresh. Make the most of it!

Remember, though, to stay focused. Keep your revision plan in place and do your best to stick to it. This will help you hit the ground running and feel confident when you get back after the break.

Here's to a restful and productive half term! See you all on Monday 2 June.

Best wishes

Mr Pease and all the Brookfield staff
